PalawanPay at the Biyaya Festival: Using Financial Innovation to Strengthen Filipino Heritage

“PalawanPay has been with our farmers and artisans from the very beginning, making it easier for them to receive their hard-earned income securely and directly. As the partner of the Biyaya Sustainable Living Festival, PalawanPay ensures that every purchase made truly goes straight to the hands of those who nurture our heritage—our coffee farmers, weavers, and artisans. It's more than just a payment system; it's a tool that empowers communities and sustains livelihoods.” ~Rich Watanabe, Festival Director at Biyaya Sustainable Living

In support of local communities and Filipino history, PalawanPay is pleased to have collaborated with the Biyaya Sustainable Living Festival as the official e-wallet and payment platform.  Through three main pillars known as the Three Cs—the bold flavors of local coffee, the legacy of Filipino culture, and the artistry of Filipino couture—the three-day festival highlighted the nation's cultural diversity.  PalawanPay helped to preserve the country's cultural character and boost local economies by sponsoring this event.

The Biyaya Festival at Parqal Aseana City built on the success of the well-known Manila Coffee Festival by emphasizing the value of honoring the Philippines' varied regional goods and customs.  Insightful conversations on sustainability and tradition were held while guests took in cultural performances, live mural competitions, sustainable fashion exhibits, and limitless cups of locally made coffee.

PalawanPay expanded its assistance beyond payments in recognition of the critical role that financial literacy plays in empowering rural communities.  Workshops on financial literacy were arranged by the company specifically for traditional weavers and farmers who grow coffee, cacao, and coconut.  In order to provide local people with the necessary financial knowledge and practical skills for a more secure, sustainable future, these initiatives included free insurance and educational seminars on the services offered by the Palawan Group of Companies (PGC).

Palawan Group of Companies is dedicated to empowering Filipinos in the agricultural and cultural sectors by providing accessible financial services and promoting financial inclusion.

Through PalawanPay, the collaboration made sure that diligent farmers and weavers received their money quickly, safely, and reasonably.  Over 10,000 Palawan Pawnshop-Palawan Express Pera Padala locations and branches supported the platform, which allowed for smooth transactions through in-app transfers or branch pick-up, fulfilling its hallmark promise: "Pwede sa branch, pwede sa app." PalawanPay made it simpler for communities to access their hard-earned money by providing a "mura, mabilis, at walang kuskos-balungos" (affordable, quick, and hassle-free) experience.

PalawanPay made transactions easy, convenient, and safe for both vendors and festival attendees, enabling them to enjoy the celebrations to the fullest without worrying about money.  PalawanPay is the perfect financial partner for an event that promotes sustainability and cultural preservation since it is more than simply a digital payment platform; it also embodies the fundamental Filipino values of community, heritage, and patriotism.

Lilian Castro-Selda, Executive Vice President and CFO of PGC, shared the inspiring journey of the Palawan Group of Companies, from its humble beginnings as a single-branch pawnshop to its growth into one of the most trusted financial institutions, now dedicated to giving back to the community.

"One of our core missions is uplifting communities through meaningful corporate social responsibility—focusing on education, sports development, and environmental protection. We remain steadfast in promoting financial inclusion for farmers, artisans, and small businesses, ensuring they have the support they need to thrive in an evolving economy.” ~Lilian Castro-Selda, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of PGC

PalawanPay is a proud supporter of regional businesses and Filipino customs as an app that is "gawang Pinoy, para sa Pinoy" (created by Filipinos, for Filipinos).  Giving farmers and weavers the knowledge and financial resources they need promotes sustainable livelihoods and fortifies the cultural ties that uphold the Filipino character.
