Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women in the Philippines, and as Breast Cancer Awareness Month comes to an end, the need for increased awareness and immediate action to combat it grows even stronger.

According to the World Health Organization's most recent data, the country has one of the highest breast cancer incidence rates in Asia, with 33,079 cases in 2022.

In its commitment to assisting Filipinos during difficult times. Insular Life (InLife), the country's first and largest Filipino life insurance company, launched Resilience, a comprehensive product that covers breast cancer and other types of cancer. Resilience is a limited-pay whole-life critical illness plan that offers a guaranteed lump sum cash payment upon critical illness diagnosis, as well as additional health benefits. It has three variants, one of which is Resilience Female Cancers.

Resilience Female Cancers covers biologically-born women who are diagnosed with breast cancer, as well as eight other types of cancers: ovarian, cervical, and endometrial cancer; uterine sarcomas, malignant mixed mullerian tumors, malignant germ cell tumors, fallopian tube cancer, and leiomyosarcoma.

Resilience is a traditional whole life plan that allows the insured to receive their life insurance benefit (equal to 100% of the sum insured) in advance if they are diagnosed with a covered major critical illness in order to cover medical expenses. In the event of hospitalization due to a covered disease, they may also be eligible for a cash benefit. If there is no claim for critical illness, they may begin receiving a cash benefit of 8% of the sum insured at age 65 (depending on issue age) and every five years thereafter until the age of 85.

Apart from Resilience Female Cancers, the two other variants are: Resilience Critical Illness Extra and Resilience Cancer, Heart Attack and Stroke (CHAS). The former provides coverage for 84 major and 39 minor critical illnesses, and the latter provides coverage for all kinds of Cancers, Heart Attack and Stroke.

Both Resilience Critical Illness Extra and Resilience CHAS include two additional benefits: late-stage cancer coverage and a buy-back option. The late-stage cancer benefit pays 15% of the insured amount if a late-stage cancer is diagnosed. The buy-back benefit allows an insured who was previously diagnosed with a critical illness and received 100% of the sum insured to receive 100% of the sum insured again when diagnosed with CHAS two years later.
