USANA Empowers Malapascua Island with Garden Towers for Sustainable Nutrition

“The people of Malapascua are malnourished because many of them do not have affordable access to quality nutrition. This project helps people have sustainable, accessible nutrition where they live, which will help improve their quality of life and health. That falls in line completely with USANA’s broader mission to be the healthiest family on earth! Malapascua Island is a unique place with unique challenges, and we are eager to see how the families take care of their towers here” ~Brian Paul, USANA Foundation’s President

The USANA Foundation, Usana Health Sciences' philanthropic arm, has constructed over 100 garden towers on the island of Malapascua, Cebu, in order to provide sustainable and accessible nutrition. This initiative contributes to USANA's larger mission of being the healthiest family on the planet.  USANA Foundation, founded in 2012, is dedicated to eradicating hunger and malnutrition around the world.

Malapascua Island, located on Cebu's northern coast, is a popular tourist destination, particularly for divers, thanks to its crystal blue waters and diverse aquatic ecosystems. The island is 2.5 kilometers long and 1 kilometer wide, making it easy to explore and allowing its residents to develop deeper relationships within the community. Beyond its beauty, there is an underlying problem of malnutrition caused by limited economic opportunities and a scarcity of accessible nutritional sources.

USANA Foundation, guided by its mission to combat malnutrition, brought their Garden Towers to the island. The USANA Foundation's Garden Towers are an innovative solution that provides sustainable, nutritious food to people all over the world. Each tower is made of durable materials, can hold up to 120 plants, and requires 30% less water. The Garden Towers not only provide nutrition, but they also generate income, promote self-reliance, and foster community collaboration and bonding.

Tons of soil, seeds, plants, and watering tools were transported to Malapascua by the USANA Foundation in collaboration with the island's leaders, families, and local businesses to bring the Garden Towers to life. Each tower is expected to yield approximately 3,000 additional servings of produce per year, benefiting people's overall nutrition.
