Local Schools get mayor upgrade with SM's Brigada Eskwela

Employees from SM City Grand Central contributed to the sustainability of the school environment by planting a diverse range of trees and vegetable shrubs. This initiative not only enhanced the school's aesthetic appeal but also promoted a greener, more sustainable campus, providing students with a fresh and eco-friendly learning space.

SM Supermalls in Grand Central, Sangandaan, and Valenzuela have completed their annual Brigada Eskwela initiative for the school year 2024-2025, which focused on three schools throughout Metro Manila. The program, which supported the Department of Education's Bayanihan para Sa Matatag na Paaralan, ended on July 31 and resulted in significant improvements to school facilities and the learning environment.

SM City Grand Central's Brigada Eskwela initiative tackled a crucial issue with a water re-installation project. This resolved the long-standing water supply problems and ensured reliable access to clean water at Morning Breeze Elementary School.

SM City Grand Central, through SM Foundation Inc, has also provided 2,750 new textbooks to enrich the students' learning experience during its Brigada Eskwela.

At Morning Breeze Elementary School in Caloocan City, SM City Grand Central went above and beyond the usual touch-ups to address the pressing issue of water access. The mall spearheaded the water re-installation project, resolving long-standing supply issues that had disrupted daily school operations.  The newly installed water system is expected to improve the lives of more than a hundred students and staff by providing consistent access to clean water. This upgrade will also benefit the school's gardening initiatives, which are centered on environmental education and food sustainability. Furthermore, SM City Grand Central has generously donated vegetable seedlings to support these gardening initiatives. The mall, through SM Foundation Inc., has also provided 2,750 new textbooks to help students learn better.

The Brigada Eskwela initiative aimed to restore aging facilities and dilapidated classrooms in all three locations. Beneficiaries also received cleaning supplies and tools for repairs and painting.

Brigada Eskwela is an annual volunteer initiative organized by SM's Human Resources Department in collaboration with SM Cares. This initiative, which aligns with SM's mission to be a catalyst for positive change, aims to help communities create better learning environments across beneficiary institutions.
