McDonald's Philippines Celebrates World Bike Day in the Country's Bike Capital

“With the rise of cycling as both a means of transportation and recreation, our goal at McDonald’s was clear—be a place where cyclists can safely, and conveniently stop over for their favorite meals. More importantly, we recognize the positive impact of cycling both for the individual, and for the environment. With Tour de McDo, we are able to connect with different cycling communities, and together, advocate for more Filipinos to rid. We are thankful for the city’s support to Tour De McDo and admire the example Iloilo City has set in being truly bike-friendly—it was great to see safe, bike-friendly roads (and routes) as well as public spaces for cyclists.  We hope this inspires more cities, and businesses across the country to be more bike-friendly.” ~Adi Hernandez, McDonald’s Philippines Assistant Vice President for Corporate Relations & Impact
McDonald's Philippines Celebrates World Bike Day in the Country's Bike Capital

In an effort to foster communities that share its dedication to environmental preservation, McDonald's Philippines hosted its largest Tour de McDo to date in Iloilo City, drawing nearly 400 cycling enthusiasts. The program is a component of the massive fast-food chain's Green & Good initiative, which aims to promote sustainable mobility and implement sustainable solutions in its restaurants.

McDonald's Officials, together with Tour de McDo organizers: (L-R) Monica Pinson, Sikad Ta Iloilo; Denise Barrameda, Senior Manager Corporate Communications, McDonald’s Philippines; Adi Hernandez, Assistant Vice President – Corporate Relations & Impact, McDonald’s Philippines; Vic Narciso, Managing Partner, San Ride Bukas; Alan Pagtalunan, Operations Consultant of Choice Gourmet Banquet, Inc.; with Birdie, Hamburglar, and Grimace

The multi-stage Tour de McDo cycling event, organized in collaboration with San Ride Bukas and Sikad Ta Iloilo, got underway at McDonald's Iloilo Business Park on Megaworld Boulevard.  Two categories of cyclists rode through the city's streets: a 15-kilometer course and a more difficult 30-kilometer course. This is the first Tour de McDo to take place in the Philippines' bike capital, Visayas.

McDonald's Philippines revived the popular Cyclist Meal, an exclusive McDonald's App offer that was available for all weekends in June, to continue the celebration throughout the entire month. Riders only needed to show the McDonald's app to receive a Cheesy Eggdesal with Sausage and a Medium McCafé Iced Coffee Original for P99, making it the ideal post-ride meal.

With bike routes that pass by several McDonald's Green & Good locations—some of which have Bike & Dine options, allowing riders to enjoy their meal without worrying about their bikes—and conveniently located bike racks for bike parking, Tour de McDo promotes an active, sustainable lifestyle. Certain stores additionally feature Bike Repair Stations, which enable riders to perform basic maintenance and repairs on their bicycles.

Tour de McDo has already received praise in the world of marketing and advertising, having won awards at the Kidlat Awards and Spikes Asia, Asia Pacific Tambuli Awards, and New York Festival. These accomplishments highlight how well the program works to encourage sustainability and community involvement.

The first Tour de McDo ride was introduced and held in February 2023 at McDonald's fifth flagship Green and Good Store in Nuvali, Laguna. This is McDonald's 700th location nationwide. The tour began at McDonald's in Nuvali and concluded at McDonald's in Tagaytay De Los Reyes. Held concurrently in Pampanga, Intramuros, and Tagaytay, the second Tour de McDo's drew 100 participants in June 2023.

Cycling enthusiasts who were unable to attend the Tour de McDo in Iloilo are welcome to ride on a variety of bike routes throughout the nation, with McDonald's Green & Good locations serving as convenient rest stops.
