Addressing the Rising Demand for MV Sensors
Demand for the product has doubled since 2018 and is expected to increase significantly over the next five years. This prompted the company to invest 1.1 million USD in a new, state-of-the-art sensor production line at its Brno Instrument Transformers and Sensors factory in the Czech Republic.

At 15,000 sq. Brno is currently the largest facility of its kind in the world by meters. By 2026, the new production line will increase production of Medium Voltage (MV) sensors by almost 100 percent, reaching 100,000 units annually.

Installations all over the world have utilized Brno factory sensors, including a recent project in which 12,000 sensors were installed to improve the energy efficiency and stability of the electricity grid in Northern Cairo. Due to their smaller size and safer use, they are ideal for replacing older instrument transformers.

The new automated production line at Brno will increase its capacity to produce a record-breaking number of sensors annually in response to rising demand for digital switchgear and the overall push to incorporate more renewable energy sources.

The ever-increasing use of MV switchgear is driving a record amount of demand. From the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest skyscraper, 828 meters above Dubai to the depths of the London Underground, MV switchgear from ABB's other production plant in Brno has been used in installations all over the world.

The vast ABB Brno plant, which has been in operation for 135 years and employs nearly 2000 people, has seven distinct units spread out across two locations. This includes the European's largest Medium Voltage Switchgear factory and the Instrument Transformers and Sensors factory.
