Pinoy Playlist Music Festival (PPMF) 2019: Ito Ay Atin, Sariling Atin

“We loved working up ideas and inviting artists for PPMF because we believe in the power of music to awaken our senses. There is so much innovation going on in Filipino music-making and you just have to hear them. We also had so much fun last year and we wanted to do it again this year and this time, with a twist.” ~Ryan Cayabyab, National Artist
(L-R) Kristine Millete, Executive Director of Sun Life Foundation; Karen Casas, Trustee of Sun Life Foundation; Alex Narciso, President of Sun Life Foundation; Benedict Sison, Chairman of Sun Life Foundation; Pinoy Playlist Music Festival curators Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, Noel Ferrer, Maribel Garcia of Bonifacio Art Foundation Inc, and Moy Ortiz
Once again, BGC Arts Center with Sun Life Foundation, launches its second Pinoy Playlist, an annual music festival that showcases the tapestry of Filipino Musicality and a celebration of the evolving nature of Filipino music and artists; the festival will feature over 100 local artists, across all genres and ages.

Will celebrate Filipino-made music across genres and across generations in the Pinoy Playlist Music Festival (PPMF) 2019!

PPMF is the brainchild of singer/songwriter/producer Moy Ortiz. His idea strongly resonated with the advocacy of talent manager/writer Noel Ferrer and of National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab. They approached the non-profit foundation, Bonifacio Art Foundation Inc (BAFI) that runs the BGC Arts Center, who agreed to work with them. Thus, PPMF was conceived as a Festival of Filipino-made music curated by Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, Noel Ferrer and Moy Ortiz and managed over-all by the Bonifacio Art Foundation represented by its Managing Director, Maria Isabel Garcia.
“Filipino musicians are weavers of culture. We cannot live without music. We owe artists the way we negotiate our everyday lives – not just joy and tragedy- but the larger and immeasurable in-betweens of our emotions. PPMF is animated by Filipino artists who give us those vital gifts to change the quality of our days and nights.” ~Maria Isabel Garcia, Managing Director of the Bonifacio Art Foundation, Inc.,

Started last year, PPMF groups over 100 artist performances across 6 days in October for an extravaganza of Filipino-made music across genres and across generations.

“Mr. C is referring to the collaborations that we have this year in a good portion of the performances. PPMF is a creative force to push Filipino music to flourish in these changing times.” ~Noel Ferrer

This year, we will experience an exciting dimension as almost a third of the slots are shared or collaborations among various artists. This year, honorees will also be given a token of gratitude for their contribution to Filipino music especially in music education and the 2019 Ryan Cayabyab Award for Musical Excellence will be conferred to one chosen artist this year, namely, Mr. Basil Valdez.

The PPMF Vision:
To elevate the Filipino public’s consciousness that our own homegrown music goes beyond being a mere form of entertainment but a living tradition - the binding “glue” that forms, strengthens and positively moves the Filipino community, thus rendering it vital and essential to keep on making and supporting Filipino-made music.

On Oct 10, a day before PPMF starts, Ryan, Noel, Moy will also conduct PPMF-X- their first-ever interactive team teaching to 500 public school kids from Taguig which is the city where the BGC Arts Center is located. They will cover topics from music and the brain, music as self-expression, music as culture-making – all strung by musical sessions with Maestro Ryan Cayabyab.

Aside from watching the performances, guests can also shop for local art at the BGC Art Mart –
a community art bazaar featuring homegrown artists.

Here are some of the artists who performed during the presscon:

Martti Franca

Nar Cabico

The Banduria
Jay Durias with Kahlil and Jaydee

Festival attendees can also shop for local art at the community art bazaar, BGC Art Mart, located at the Alveo Central Plaza of the BGC Arts Center.
