SIARGAO INTERNATIONAL MARATHON 2017: Run for the Mangroves

Siargao International Marathon 2017 is a fundraising campaign organized by the Municipality of Del Carmen together with Runrio Events, Inc. and Open Space Media Inc. for the benefit of mangrove rehabilitation in Del Carmen. This is the 1st Siargao International Marathon following the success of the first Siargao It Up! Marathon last year.

RUNRIO Events, Inc. Launches the Siargao International Marathon last Thursday, May 18, 2017, 3pm at Plantation Bar & Bistro, Carlos Palanca St., Legaspi Village, Makati. The island of Siargao in Surigao del Norte has been gaining vast popularity among tourists. Other thank its world-renowned surf breaks, the island boasts of beautiful beaches, clear waters, scenic views and natural wonders.

In the municipality of Del Carmen, on the way to the tourist favorite Sugba Lagoon, one passes through the Del Carmen Mangroves. This mangrove forest is the second largest in the country and is home to 27 out of 70 mangrove species in the world. Unfortunately, vast tracks of these mangroves have been illegally cut to make charcoal.

In support of Del Carmen Mayor Alfredo Matugas Coro's mangrove rehabilitation program that he has started since coming into office in 2010, RunRio Events, Inc. and Open Space Media Inc. are launching the first Siargao International Marathon: Run for the Mangroves on July 23, 2017 to be held in Del Carmen, Siargao. This event aims to promote the island of Siargao as a place for sports and eco tourism as well as to contribute tot he rehabilitation of the Del Carmen Mangroves.

Registration for the 21km and 42km categories is open to participants from all over the world ages 18 years old and above. Aside from the race singlet, bib with timing chip and sponsors freebies, each race kit comes with a pledge of one seeding to be planted in the mangrove forest on July 25, 2017 during a planting activity that will include a talk by Dr. Jurgenne Primavera, Chief Mangrove Scientific Adviser.

Participants for this event may now register through the RunRio website, www.runrio.com and also have the option to book their direct flights from Manila to Siargao via Skyjet Airlines.

Can I still register even if I don’t have a credit card?

Yes, we are accepting payments via bank deposit/transfer. You may deposit your payments to Acct Name: Runrio Inc. (Registration) / Acct #: 2110153616, email yourdeposit slips to info@runrio.com together with there gistrant’s complete name, race category, address, contact number. For inquiries, you may also contact us at 463-4813 and look for Vismark Peñada.

Is there a discount for local government staff, students or senior citizens?

There are no discounts offered since this is a fundraising event.

Who can participate?

Adults (18y.o. and above) may choose from any of the two categories – 21K and 42K.

What are the inclusions of the registration fee?

a. For the 21K – singlet, race bib, loot  bag, RFID timing chip, finisher medal and finisher shirt

b. For 42K – singlet, race bib, loot bag, RFID timing chip, finisher medal and finisher shirt

Note: Finisher medals and shirts will be given at the finish line.

What is the time of Assembly?

For 42K, participants should be at the starting line at Del Carmen by 4:00 AM.

For 21K, participants should be at the starting line at Del Carmen by 4:30 AM.

Participants have an option to book their shuttle service from their hotel/resort to the starting line thru Runrio for a minimal fee or thru local transport available (hotel/resort shuttle service, habal-habal, etc.)

What is the time of Gun Start?

For 42K, the gunstart is at 5:00 AM

For 21K, the gunsart is at 5:30 AM

How do I get my race kit?

All registrants must claim their race kit at the Arrival Area of Del Carmen Airport, Siargao from July 20 to 22, 2017.

How does the singlet jersey look like?

Is there a cut-off time?

42km cut off time is 7 hours after gun start.

21km cut off time is 4 hours after gun start.

We will also implement a starting cut-off time. Runners will not be allowed to run the race if they arrive beyond 15 minutes after their designated gun start.

Can I book  my airfare thru Runrio?

Yes you may book your airfare from Manila to Siargao and Siargao to Manila thru Runrio at the online registration link provided. We have limited slots thru our airline partner - Skyjet Air. Seats may run out before registration closes.

Can I book my hotel/resort accommodation thru Runrio?

Hotels and resort accommodation is not available thru Runrio. You may click on this link (Siargao Accommodation) for available hotels and resorts in Siargao.
