IKEA Celebrates Early Christmas with Its Biggest Price Drop Ever

“Our commitment to making quality home essentials more affordable is a reflection of our dedication to the many Filipinos. This early Christmas price drop is our way of helping families navigate the holiday season with greater ease and joy.” ~Gerard Jansen, Country Retail Director, IKEA Philippines and Singapore

As we officially enter the Christmas season, IKEA celebrates early with its largest price adjustment ever to their wide-range of products plus huge discount to Truck Delivery and fixed free pickup across all IKEA Collection Points nationwide. IKEA Philippines will officially launch the VINTERFINT Christmas collection that will be available in IKEA Pasay in preparation for the coming holidays.

VINTERFINT holiday decors

With the Christmas spirit in the air, IKEA Philippines is celebrating the season with its biggest price adjustment yet. True to its vision to "create a better everyday life for the many people," IKEA Philippines continues to support the Swedish home furnishings brand's proactive efforts to make home life easier and more affordable for many Filipino families.

According to the IKEA Life at Home Report 2023, 43 percent of Filipinos are most concerned with their household finances and disposable income. Furthermore, 38% of Filipinos believe that not having enough money to care for their home is a major reason why they feel less in control of their daily lives. In response, IKEA is dedicated to improving the quality of life for many people by providing affordable solutions that help Filipinos feel more in control and find joy in their homes.

Starting September 1, IKEA will reduce prices on the items that are most important to many Filipinos. Exactly 2,000 of IKEA's 9,753 products, or 20% of the total product range, will now be available at even lower prices. Filipinos can anticipate the same high quality that IKEA is known for in the lower-price lineup, which includes the fast-drying VAGSJON hand towel that adds a touch of softness and style to the bathroom with its pure cotton material, the MIDDAGSMAT pot with lid that makes cooking easier and more enjoyable with its fast-heating and lightweight design, the AFJALL foam mattress that offers superior comfort and support for a restful sleep, and the SKOGSFRÄKEN pillow that guarantees maximum comfort for better sleep, the MURVEL shoe organiser that is the ideal solution for storing shoes in style and saving space, and the BESTÄMMA food container with lid that offers a straightforward and dependable storage solution for packed meals or leftovers.

IKEA Philippines lowered the cost of truck delivery nationwide on August 26 to a fixed price of PHP 600, down from the previous maximum of PHP 1,990, in addition to this extensive price reduction. Furthermore, all IKEA Collection Points across the country—which are situated in Pasay City, Laguna, Cavite, Batangas, Pampanga, Zambales, Tarlac, Pangasinan, Benguet, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Cebu, Iloilo, Davao, and Misamis Oriental—now offer Click & Collect services for free (previously PHP 590).

Additionally, visitors to IKEA Pasay City can take advantage of reduced prices on a few menu items, like a combo hotdog and drink for just PHP 59 (previously PHP 79) and a meatless lasagna for just PHP 99 (previously PHP 199).

Consider these reduced prices as IKEA's early gift to every Filipino home as the country prepares for the ber months. They make it simpler for everyone to furnish their homes with the now even more reasonably priced IKEA furniture and design a space they love.

Discover new products from the adored VINTERFINT lighting collection, including Christmas trees, textiles, lighting, and décor, to get into the holiday spirit as early as September. The VINTERFINT collection will bring the warmth and cheer of Christmas into the homes of many Filipinos by enabling you to add a festive touch or assisting you in getting ready for holiday gatherings.

Fitness and Strength Celebrated as Anytime Fitness brings back Battle of the Purple Champions

“We are proud not just of our athletes who gave it their all during Battle of the Purple Champions, but for all who came to celebrate with us. At Anytime Fitness, we always want to push boundaries; that said, we want to take this chance to remind everyone that anyone can be a Champion – you just need to have a fighting spirit committed to making yourself a better version of yourself everyday.” ~Mark de Joya, COO of Inspire Brands Asia

On August 25, Anytime Fitness reignited the spirit of strength and community with the return of its highly anticipated strength competition, Battle of the Purple Champions. The event celebrated the best in health and fitness while showcasing the talents of its community members from across the country. This year's competition had a unique twist, with challenges inspired by everyday life, pushing participants beyond traditional workouts.

The winning team was Team Anytime Fitness Ecoland Davao, which included Samuel Diones, John Kenneth Solonia, Danilo M. Quirabo Jr., Tristan Ivan Melgarejo, and Dexter Ansaldo. This is their third consecutive championship, following wins in 2018 and 2019. The team won with an impressive time of 7 minutes and 18 seconds.

Team Anytime Fitness Ecoland Davao

Team Anytime Fitness Bacoor

Team Anytime Fitness Mall of Asia

Team Anytime Fitness Bacoor came in second with a time of 8 minutes and 44 seconds, while Team Anytime Fitness Mall of Asia finished third in 9 minutes and 2 seconds.

Strength in Teamwork
“We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to compete again and proud to be champions. This event reminded us that anyone can be a champion if they work hard and persevere. Our journey shows that dedication pays off. To be a champion, you need discipline and consistency in your workouts. We didn’t become champions overnight; it took patience and hard work. Not everyone can persevere through the challenges, but if you stay focused and committed, the results will come.”

The title did not come easily for Team Ecoland Davao. During the qualifying rounds, all teams had to work hard in order to complete the challenges in the shortest amount of time possible. For the champions, teamwork, focus, and effective communication were critical to their success.

The team members hope that their victory encourages others to live an active lifestyle and serves as a reminder that you can be a champion anywhere, at any time.

A Unique Comeback
This year's Battle of the Purple Champions took a fresh approach, transforming everyday activities into enjoyable, fitness-focused challenges. With Anytime Fitness' cutting-edge equipment at their disposal, participants pushed their limits while completing creative tasks.

The competition began with Moving Day, a challenge inspired by the milestone of moving homes. Teams were tasked with organizing a shuffled room by lifting and arranging furniture to fit a predetermined layout.

The Sandbag Shuffle was the next challenge, in which teams carried five sandbags, loaded them onto a sled, and navigated obstacles while testing their core, leg, and upper body strength.

To recognize the growing cycling trend in the Philippines, the Bike Race challenge required teams to alternate between stationary biking and high jumps on a plyometric box, combining endurance and explosive power.

The final challenge, Champion's Climb, involved participants racing up and down a staircase while carrying kettlebells, simulating the strength required for travel.

Although Team Ecoland Davao emerged as the champions, every team exemplified the event’s core message that “real life never stops.”

Celebrating Champions
The Battle of the Purple Champions is an initiative of Anytime Fitness, the pioneer of the 24/7 fitness franchise concept and the region's largest and most diverse fitness network. With over 5,500 clubs worldwide, Anytime Fitness remains steadfast in its commitment to providing all opportunities for wellness and development.

Barbie Almalbis explains overcoming internal struggles on new single “homeostasis”

“I’m no scientist, so I’m using this concept very loosely and explaining it in the simple way I understand it. It’s the process by which our body always returns to equilibrium, a balanced state, like how we involuntarily sweat when we’re too hot and shiver when we’re too cold. It’s the same with emotions: our body doesn’t want us to stay too ecstatic or too sad; it tries to bring us back to a steady state. Homeostasis was giving me hope, that everyday my body is going to adapt, I’d feel less and less terrible in time, because it has that built-in function. I love how Lazaro put all the dance and synth pop elements on it, as well as the more aggressive guitar riffs.I’ve been interested in that dance pop/rock genre for a while. I had some songs like Run For Cover and Wicked Heart, but I love how Nick was able to do it this way, where the rock and edgy sound is more present; it kind of sounds closer to how we play these songs live too. ~Barbie Almalbis, Dahilan Pop-Rock Visionary

Barbie Almalbis, who released the critically acclaimed comeback single "Desperate Hours" last month, returns with another eclectic follow-up to mark the start of a new music era.

The award-winning singer-songwriter has released her second single, "homeostasis," which is derived from a biological term that describes our bodies' regulating process as a means of adapting to changing environmental conditions.

Almalbis was going through a difficult time in her life and felt compelled to express her feelings through her art. She couldn't change the situation, so she decided to write a song that perfectly described her feelings at the time.

Her longtime collaborator Nick Lazaro of Eclectic Kiss arranged and produced the song, with Almalbis writing the lyrics on guitarlele and brother/bandmate Karel Honasan writing the instrumentals. The end result is another riveting, unconventional track that combines Almalbis' confessional and poetic lyrics with edgy, art-rock production and minimal synths: think St. Vincent or PJ Harvey, but with a more saccharine take on vocal delivery.

Barbie Almalbis’ “homeostasis” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide.

DHL Express and Brother Industries Philippines, Inc. Commit to reducing the carbon footprint with sustainable aviation fuel

“GoGreen Plus enables Brother Industries (Philippines) to reduce its Scope 3 emissions, the indirect GHG emissions in a company's value chain, including downstream transportation and distribution. We hope this collaboration will inspire more companies to adopt low-emission transportation services using sustainable aviation fuel.” ~Nigel Lockett, DHL Express Philippines Country Manager
(L-R: Ms. Heidi Trinidad, Assistant Manager, Brother Industries (Philippines), Inc.; Mr. Wataru Shimizu, General Manager, Brother Industries (Philippines), Inc.; Mr. Nigel Lockett, Country Manager, DHL Express; Mr. Eric Queppet, VP for Commercial, DHL Express)

DHL Express and Brother Industries (Philippines), Inc. have teamed up to strengthen their commitment to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions via DHL Express's GoGreen Plus service. Using this service and the book and claim methodology, Brother can reduce its annual GHG emissions from international parcels by 30%.

As a global logistics leader, DHL is committed to leading by example in sustainable logistics and achieving net-zero GHG emissions by 2050. The GoGreen Plus service is a key initiative that allows customers to reduce GHG emissions from international shipments by using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). SAF is a more sustainable jet fuel derived from renewable energy, sustainable plants, or waste. It reduces greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 80% when compared to conventional jet fuel derived from fossil fuels.

The collaboration with DHL Express is consistent with the Brother Group's Environmental Vision 2050, which seeks to reduce the environmental impact of its business operations by lowering GHG emissions across all activities. To calculate and report Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, the company follows internationally recognized standards such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, EN 16258, and the Global Logistics Emissions Council Framework, which represent direct and indirect emissions both in its own assets and within its supply chain. DHL Express calculates market-based effects using the Voluntary Market Based Measures Framework for Logistics Emissions Accounting and Reporting, which was published by the Smart Freight Center.

“Our partnership with DHL Express reflects our sustainable efforts to reduce the environmental impact of the manufacturing and logistics industries.” ~Wataru Shimizu, Brother Industries (Philippines), Inc., General Manager

In 2023, DHL Express launched the GoGreen Plus service, allowing customers to reduce the GHG emissions associated with their international air freight via SAF. GoGreen Plus is made possible by three of the most significant SAF contracts with bp, Neste, and World Energy.

Book Nook expands horizons with new branch at The Podium

The Book Nook's design is a seamless flow of organic forms and open spaces, inviting readers on a journey of discovery and connection.

On August 15, 2024, in a celebratory atmosphere brimming with literary enthusiasm and community spirit, the Book Nook opened its second location on the fifth level of The Podium. Building on the success of its first location at SM Aura, this new chapter represents an exciting milestone in Book Nook's mission to empower Filipinos through literacy, self-expression, and communal giving.

(L-R): SM Engineering Design and Development Corporation President Hans “Chico” Sy Jr., SM Supermalls’ President Steven Tan, Royal Pineda + Architecture Design’s Architect Royal Pineda, videographer Jason Magbanua, Mandaluyong City Councilor Charisse Abalos-Vargas, Book Nook founder Architect Shereen Sy, and WTA Architecture & Design Studio’s Architect William Ti Jr.

Book Nook, conceived by architect Sheeren Sy in December 2020, is inspired by a simple yet effective book-sharing initiative she discovered in Melbourne, Australia. Sy's vision was to establish a similar space in the Philippines that not only promotes reading but also fosters communal unity—a key component of the Filipino value of "bayanihan."

The architect behind the vision
The new Book Nook location is a masterpiece designed by renowned Filipino architect Royal Pineda of Royal Pineda + Architecture Design. Pineda, known for his work on iconic projects like the New Clark International Airport and the Philippines Pavilion at the Dubai Expo 2020, brings his visionary touch to the Book Nook. He has transformed the space into a community hub that promotes learning, sharing, and social interaction.

Discover your next favorite read among the diverse book collection at the Book Nook.

A harmonious space
The Book Nook's design demonstrates the power of simplicity and functionality. It's a continuous flow of space that seamlessly combines form and function. From nothing, Architect Pineda created a learning environment, a space in which elements are interconnected and purposeful.

The Book Nook is a community-centric space where stories come alive.

A corner of history
The Philippine History Corner is a standout feature of the new branch, with numerous books donated by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) to promote historical knowledge. The collection includes copies of Dr. Jose Rizal's seminal work, Noli Me Tangere. This dedicated area aims to help visitors better understand Filipino heritage and history.

The new Book Nook is a reimagined space brought to life by the brilliance of architect Royal Pineda of Royal Pineda + Architecture Design.

A haven for book lovers
The first Book Nook branch, located on the third level of SM Aura, has become a popular destination for both book lovers and community members. It was designed by acclaimed architect William Ti Jr. of WTA Architecture and Design Studio and now houses a growing collection of over 3,000 books, fostering a thriving culture of reading and sharing. The new branch at The Podium aims to carry on this legacy by providing a cozy and welcoming environment for visitors to explore, donate, and exchange books.

A donor contributes to the new Book Nook learning hub.

This vision wouldn't be possible without the generous support of several organizations. Book Nook extends its heartfelt gratitude to:
  • Anvil Publishing
  • IBBY Philippines
  • Global Peace Foundation Philippines
  • National Bookstore
  • National Historical Commission of the Philippines
  • Phoenix Publishing House
  • Vibal Foundation
  • SM Aura
  • SM Foundation
  • SM Prime

Their contributions have significantly enriched the Book Nook experience, offering a diverse book collection and developing a space for learning and connection.
