It's more fun in the Philippines!
A lot of millennials nowadays aren't much aware of everything that has to do with the '90s from music, fashion, famous street games of Pinoys, even food and known loveteams. But what makes me be proud of "Batang 90's" is that everything seems so simple before technology took over our lives. Back then you can just play games outside with your neighbors and or schoolmate simple as that without even using any gadget and much more interaction with the opponent, but nowadays everyone's on their mobiles playing games. That's why I was surprised and got trilled to see those old games I used to play during the PHITEX and MICECONnect Joint Gala Dinner at the Reception Hall of PICC last October 21, 2019.
Here are some of the homegrown '90's games:
- LuksongTinik
- Patintero
- Yoyo
- Tiyakad
- Piko
- Luksong Baka
- Sepak Takraw
Now in its 18th year, PHITEX is considered to be the biggest travel trade event in the country. With over 200 sellers and 200 buyers expected to participate in this year’s installment, the country’s brand image is set to be strengthened further as participants are encouraged to promote competitive tourism packages.
The Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Philippines, the marketing and promotions arm of the Department of Tourism (DOT), is set to boost tourism in the Philippines as it simultaneously mounts the Philippine Travel Exchange (PHITEX) and MICE Buyers Invitational (MICECONnect) 2019 on October 20 to 27 to promote the Philippines as a prime tourist destination for both leisure and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibits/Events).
Guest and Media are welcomed with performances by Sindaw Philippines Performing Guild, Macky the Spinner, Sepaktakraw from Rizal Memorial and Mandaluyong Children's Choir.
The main highlight is the one and a half day business-to-business (B2B) session that will take place between foreign buyers and local sellers to encourage an exchange of tourism-related discourse among the participants and open doors for business opportunities.
Industry leaders will also take part in the PHITEX educational seminars as key resource speakers to discuss new trends in tourism marketing as well as marketing strategies in mature and emerging markets while keeping the theme of “Philippine Tourism: Trailblazing Responsible Travel and Inclusive Growth,” in mind.
Welcome Remarks by Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat of Department of Tourism and Chairperson, Tourism Promotions Board.
Some of the big names gracing the seminar include:
- Thomas Graham, Co-Founder of Make A Difference (MAD) Travel, who talked about sustainable tourism.
- Carlos Mori Rodriguez, the Chief Innovation Officer of EON The Stakeholder Relations Group, who presented insights focusing on the Filipino in the UAE.
- Nelly Nuezca Dillera, CESO III, the Deputy Executive Director of the Philippine Trade Training Center - Global MSME Academy, who ended the day with "Building Capabilities for Halal Development and Certification."
MICECONnect 2019 aims to accelerate the Philippine MICE industry by gathering MICE suppliers to showcase the country as a premium destination for international events and conferences. MICECONnect 2019 will likewise feature B2B sessions for Philippine and foreign MICE buyers. Part of the event will also include a hotel and MICE venue inspection with TPB officials and MICECONnect 2019 participants.

Happening in conjunction with PHITEX, MICECONnect 2019 is the continuation of a two-year program, which began last year as a comprehensive educational seminar for local MICE stakeholders to learn new and effective global trends, approaches, and methods. This year, it will focus on conducting business networking opportunities to further develop the MICE industry in the country.
MICECONnect delegates will be treated to post-event tours to highlight some of the country's premier MICE destinations including:
- Iloilo City
- Bacolod
- Davao
- Boracay
- Cebu
- Bohol
- Palawan
- Tagaytay
- Manila
- Batangas.
More importantly, both PHITEX and MICECONnect 2019 enable TPB to support and raise awareness on sustainable community-based tourism. Apart from promoting what the Philippines can offer, TPB also advocates for the protection of natural assets and expanding the benefits of tourism to communities that are directly and indirectly affected by the industry, consequently helping DOT towards achieving its goals for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
