The Brain Wellness Center is an integrated, patient-centered facility that will provide care, from prevention to early recognition and management for general brain health and various brain disorder and one of which is Dementia.
The Asian Hospital Brain Wellness Center's roster of specialists includes adult neurologist, neurosurgeons, pediatric neurologists, rehabilitation medicine specialists, physical and occupational therapists, nutritionist, psychologists and psychometricians. They work together seamlessly to give our patients multidisciplinary care tailored-fit to address their unique needs.
They aim to be the center of excellence in providing care for cognitive disorders from prevention to early recognition and management in the communities they serve.

- THE HUMAN HEAD - The Brain Wellness Center logo is primarily represented by the human head where the brain is located. This conveys Center's area of expertise and focus of wellness and healing.
- THE COLORFUL AND FRUITFUL TREE - The tree depicted here as the human brain conveys the Center's primary goal of keeping its natural vitality and vibrancy. The multi-colored leaves is a representations of the brains multi-faceted functions and capabilities that when kept healthy, it will continue to be at its peak, allowing the individual to be at its best in performing his/her daily vital functions.
- THE CHRYSANTHEMUM - The chrysanthemum known to symbolize fidelity, optimism, joy and long life is the official symbol of the Asian Hospital and Medical Center. It is positioned here side by side with the human head to depict AHMC'S over-all commitment to all its patients of providing a healthy, healing environment.

DEMENTIA is not part of normal aging, although as a person ages, the risk of dementia increases.
DEMENTIA is not a specific disease, but an overall term used to describe a set of symptoms involved in the decline of mental ability.
DEMENTIA is progressive and occurs because there is degeneration of brain function, which eventually affects daily activities such as work, hobbies, shopping, cooking, grooming, eating and toileting.
*Dementia occuring in patients under the age of 65 years are considered Yong Onset Dementia (YOD).

ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE (AD) - AD is the most common type and cause of Dementia. AD is caused by high levels of certain proteins inside and outside brain cells, making it hard for these brain cells to stay healthy. The hippocampus - center of learning and memory is often the first to be damaged. This is why memory loss is often one of the earliest symptoms of AD.
VASCULAR DEMENTIA (VaD): STROKE CAUSING DEMENTIA - VaD is the second most common form of Dementia. It may be preventable, therefore early detection and diagnoses is important. VaD is caused by reduced supply of oxygen to the brain, from the narrowing or blockage of blood vessels. It may occur after one large stroke, or a series of mini strokes.
FRONTOTEMPORAL DEMENTIA (FTD) - FTD is caused by abnormal proteins that form inside nerve cells int he front and side parts of the brain. Early symptoms include changes in personality, behavior and difficulty with language.
LEWY BODY DEMENTIA (LBD) - LBD is a form of progressive dementia. Early symptoms include fluctuating alertness, difficulties with judging distances and hallucinations.
MIXED DEMENTIA - Displays symptoms of both Alcheimer's disease and Vascular Dementia.

The program is designed to evaluate the patient's memory function and identify risks f memory decline. The team provides neurocognitive screening, a comprehensive evaluation for patients with cognitive disorders as well as family sessions to educate the patients families and caregivers about the appropriate care plan.
The Memory Wellness Program offers the following services:

- a set of blood tests routinely tested for patients with memory complaints (example Vit B12)
Vascular Risk Screening
- Chem 12 Panel
Neurocognitive Screening
- a set of cognitive and memory tests designed to give an overview of which cognitive domains are most affected.

Comprehensive Screening Package

Dementia is an umbrella term describing variety of diseases and conditions that develop when nerve cells in the brain (called neutrons) die or no longer function normally.
The death or malfunction of neutrons causes changes in one's memory, behavior and ability to think clearly.
Dementia is NOT part of normal aging.
